The VCU Department of Biology's innovative curriculum is seamlessly integrated with research and emphasizes the areas of cell regulation, evolution, and ecological processes and applications.

We teach and research a broad range of biological topics from the smallest microbe to an ecosystem; from the environment to human health. As a student, you'll have the opportunity to engage in a wealth of hands-on experiences such as research opportunities, and lab and field courses. The Department of Biology seeks to deliver an innovative curriculum integrated with research emphases in the areas of Molecular, Cellular, and Developmental Biology, Evolution, and Ecological Processes and Applications. Faculty members engage and enlighten the community, provide students in all disciplines with a solid foundation in the biological sciences, and prepare Biology graduate and undergraduate majors for advanced academic study, admission to health programs. employment in laboratory and field programs, jobs in private industry, positions with government agencies, and teaching in secondary schools.
