Virtual Office Hours for Advising

Beginning Monday, February 5th, and available throughout the Spring 2024 semester, our virtual advising sessions offer you the convenience of connecting with one of our Biology advisers.

Virtual Office Hours Schedule

  • Monday, 2 pm - 4 pm
  • Wednesday, 10 am - 12 pm
  • Thursday, 10 am - 12 pm and 1 pm - 3 pm
  • Friday, 10 am - 12 pm

Students should come prepared with their V-number and specific questions for advising. We cannot guarantee that you will be able to meet with a specific advisor, but you will have the opportunity to meet with the next available Biology advisor. If you are a prospective student or newly admitted student, please email bioadvising@vcu.edu to schedule an appointment.

Virtual Advising:

  1. Join our virtual advising session via Zoom from your desktop or mobile app at: https://vcu.zoom.us/j/82421570867. You must be logged into your VCU Zoom account (your Zoom email/password is the same as your VCU email/password).
  2. Upon logging in, you will enter our waiting room and soon greeted by a office hour moderator. If the office hour time has not begun, you will need to wait until the office hour moderator has started the meeting.
  3. The office hour moderator will place you in a private breakout room (if needed).
  4. We highly recommend using a laptop or desktop computer, especially if we need to access the eServices/Degree Works system and may need to share screens during your session. We also recommend using headphones if you are not able to attend the meeting from a private place.
  5. Due to safety and privacy, meetings will be ended if you attempt to connect
    1. While you are in class, actively working, or in another meeting.
    2. While you are driving or traveling.
    3. If you are in a public space or otherwise preoccupied.
  6. When you and your adviser are finished, you can leave the meeting.

Special Notes

Students must join the Drop-In Advising Meeting from a desktop application or the Zoom Mobile App and log in to their VCU Zoom account (your Zoom email/password is the same as your VCU email/password). Students who attempt to join the meeting as "guests" or who attempt to join in their browser will not be able to meet with an adviser.

To request a course override, please fill out the Biology override form found here: https://biology.vcu.edu/undergrad/overrides/

Please note that size overrides are not typically given, and an alternative course should be found if a course is full.
