Center for Environmental Studies

The Center for Environmental Studies is the focal point for environmental studies research and instruction at Virginia Commonwealth University. The Center provides more than thirty distinguished cooperating faculty; expansive offering of environmental training opportunities; and a geographic information systems laboratory.

Environmental Analysis Lab

The Environmental Analyses Lab centralizes the oversight and operation of core instruments that support environmental research. The EAL is affiliated with the Rice Center for Environmental Life Sciences, the Center for Environmental Studies and the Department of Biology. Samples analyzed by the EAL provide data for research projects carried out by VCU faculty and their graduate students.

Eugene P. and Lois E. Trani Center for Life Sciences

Virginia Commonwealth University’s Eugene P. and Lois E. Trani Center for Life Sciences fosters interdisciplinary research and instruction. The building houses the Department of Biology, the Center for Environmental Studies, the Center for the Study of Biological Complexity, a satellite lab of the Nucleic Acid Research Facility, the Bioinformatics Computational Core Laboratory Suite, and the Office of the Vice Provost for Life Sciences.

Inger and Walter Rice Center for Environmental Life Sciences

The Inger and Walter Rice Center for Environmental Life Sciences is Virginia Commonwealth University’s field station devoted to a broad array of environmental research, teaching and public service. Located on 494 acres along the historic James River, midway between Richmond and Williamsburg, the Rice Center is rich in natural and cultural resources. The center has a variety of aquatic and terrestrial habitats that provide many research and educational opportunities.

Virginia Bio-Technology Research Park

The Virginia BioTechnology Research Park is located in the center of the nation’s East Coast pharmaceutical and biotechnology corridor.
